Understanding trends and shifts in IT markets requires more than anecdotal evidence. Well-designed, focused and executed telephone surveys are a prime vehicle to get an idea about what’s going on in a specific market. The HfS Research Trends Survey concludes that (a) cloud computing has crossed the chasm and is now on top of IT managers’ agendas, (b) private clouds are the number one investment area in 2012 and (c) long-term, buyers are looking for solutions that integrate the private, public and hybrid cloud environments. The underlying reason for these trends is buyers’ strong belief that using cloud computing will dramatically slash IT cost.
