HFS Core Team
Jim Eastlake is Research Vice President, Internet of Things technology and services, at HfS. Prior to joining the company, he worked for Gartner for 20 years, the last 14 years of which he managed Gartner’s worldwide Semiconductors & Electronics group. The semiconductor industry is a technology bellwether. Thus, his group was the first to research IoT, beginning in 2012. Eventually, the group found itself leading the IoT agenda for the entire Gartner research organisation.
Jim has over 35 years’ experience in technology, semiconductors and electronics. He spent a year at BBC Engineering back in 1980. He then worked for Texas Instruments for six years, starting in sales, but quickly moving to marketing. He managed the company’s microprocessor and controller product ranges in Europe. Jim then joined Dataquest as a Research Director. He covered the markets for ASICs, memory and discretes before moving into management. In 1995 Gartner bought Dataquest.
He is an experienced global manager. As one who always loves to learn, he has been fortunate in spending his time working for the premier research firms in the technology business – Gartner, Dataquest and now HfS Research. He is a strategic thinker with an eye to the long view. He looks to history, and the evolution of disparate ecosystems to understand what is, and might happen.
Jim has a degree in Physics from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He lives in the south of England with his wife and three daughters. His chief love is music, and he does a poor impression of Eric Clapton and Segovia on the guitar.
