HFS Research and Sutherland brought together a group of leading insurance Global Capability Center (GCC) executives to discuss how GCCs can move beyond the old offshore model and build a scalable, AI-driven foundation for enterprise transformation.

The discussion focused on how insurance GCCs can evolve from engines of efficiency into strategic enablers of innovation, intelligence, and transformation, with AI embedded at the core.

The conversation challenged insurance GCC leaders to rethink their operating models, elevate their centers beyond cost-focused support functions, and position India as an emerging brain trust for AI, digital talent, and insurance domain expertise.

Key takeaways from the discussion included:

  • GCCs must move beyond efficiency. These hubs have long been positioned as engines of efficiency, but that is no longer enough. As AI becomes central to enterprise value creation, GCCs must become strategic enablers of innovation and transformation.
  • AI cannot simply be layered onto old ways of working. Insurance leaders discussed the need to recast the GCC operating model with the right building blocks across people, infrastructure, technology, and data,especially in a highly regulated environment.
  • India is becoming the AI and digital talent brain trust. As global demand for AI and digital talent surged, insurance GCCs in India are challenged to stay ahead in the talent race and build the next wave of tech and domain expertise required to deliver AI at scale.
  • GCCs are becoming engines of value creation. Leading insurers are transforming delivery centers from cost-focused support functions into enterprise engines of innovation, with measurable impact across underwriting, pricing, claims, policy administration, and customer experience.
  • Enterprise AI value depends on practical execution. This was not a conversation about what AI could do. It focused on what GCCs must deliver now to unlock AI value at the enterprise level.
