Highlights from this executive roundtable

HFS Research and Infosys convened leaders from manufacturing, supply chain, global business services (GBS), decision science, technology, and transformation functions to discuss the changing role of operations in life sciences.

The discussion drew on insights from a HFS Point of View report and explored how life sciences operations can move beyond traditional silos to become a strategic driver of growth, innovation, and business value.

Leaders also explored how AI, advanced analytics, and new partnership models can help organizations improve efficiency, accelerate decision-making, and deliver greater business value.

What we heard

Several themes emerged throughout the discussion:

  1. Operations must become a strategic growth engine. Participants agreed that traditional back-office models are no longer sufficient. Operations must play a more active role in supporting revenue growth, innovation, and enterprise transformation.
  2. AI is creating new opportunities across the value chain. Leaders discussed practical applications of AI across manufacturing, supply chain, decision science, and shared services, with a focus on delivering measurable business outcomes.
  3. Breaking down functional silos is essential. Organizations are increasingly recognizing the need to connect operations, technology, data, and business functions to improve agility and decision-making.
  4. Partnerships will play a critical role in future success. Participants explored how technology providers, business service providers, and ecosystem partners can help accelerate transformation and bring new capabilities to life sciences organizations.
  5. There is much to learn from other industries. Leaders discussed lessons from sectors that have already advanced their operational transformation journeys, identifying both successful practices and common pitfalls to avoid.
