Cloud migration: Business critical applications

Service providers are playing a large role in moving data, workloads, and business applications to hybrid and public cloud. The big three of Microsoft, Amazon, and Google have captured various workloads, but Azure has leapt to the font as the platform of choice for business-critical applications.

  • Microsoft enjoys an advantage with many customers moving their applications and databases to Azure to extend their business with Microsoft’s Azure platform (44%).
  • Google (Google Cloud Platform: GCP) (28%) and Amazon’s AWS (26%) are investing in partnerships and tools for moving business applications from the likes of Oracle and SAP to their platforms.
  • Certified professionals for GCP, Azure, and AWS are going to be in short supply give the demand and the increasing talent wars of GSIs and global advisory firms as they boost internal training and seek to acquire firms in target markets.
The Bottom Line: While Microsoft has captured the early lead with many of its business-critical applications being migrated to its Azure platform, Amazon’s AWS and Google’s GCP are developing significant partnerships with services providers and competing software firms to optimize their cloud for their solutions.
