The very recent Pokemon Go saga has indicated that today’s generation is very quick in adopting new technologies. So the next challenge for the CMOs is whether they are ready to launch augmented reality based campaign for engaging the customers. In the future, consumers will prefer to buy from virtual reality-based stores, view items in augmented reality, communicate with others using new technologies such as near field communication, etc. So the enterprises need to be updated about all the emerging technologies and launch marketing campaigns in the new technology platforms. Thus the challenge is not only managing the campaign in new technology platform but also developing the content in new formats. How CMOs should go about it?
The first option might be to rely on the creative agency which enterprises are already using and to let them take care of augmented reality and other new technology campaigns both from the creative and the technology side. The second option might be to rely on the IT service providers or system integrators that can provide the technical expertise at a cost that would be reasonable in comparison to that of agency driven technical campaigns.
Now there is a third option emerging that is to hire an engineering service provider to work alongside marketing for end-to-end marketing management. Engineering service providers can spice up marketing by applying product development principles to CMO organizations.
