The HFS Horizons: F&A Services-as-Software, 2026 report is for CFOs, finance transformation leaders, and global business services heads evaluating providers to scale AI-led, software-like finance operations.

Overview

The HFS Horizons: F&A Services-as-Software, 2026 report evaluates 17 finance and accounting service providers on their shift from labor-led delivery to Services-as-Software™, the HFS Research model in which finance is re-architected as configurable, software-like service layers consumed like a product rather than billed by effort. Assessed across three horizons on client, partner, and analyst inputs, it finds delivery excellence is now table stakes, while strategic value, proactive innovation, and commercial models separate the leaders.

Horizons placement chart showing 17 finance and accounting service providers grouped into three horizontal bands. The left vertical axis represents innovation scope, rising from functional at the bottom, to enterprise in the middle, to ecosystem at the top. The right vertical axis represents value aspiration, rising from digital at the bottom, to experience in the middle, to growth at the top. Horizon 3 Market Leaders, in the top band, are Accenture, Capgemini, Deloitte, EXL, EY, Genpact, IBM, Infosys, and TCS. Horizon 2 Enterprise Innovators, in the middle band, are Cognizant, KPMG, PwC, Sutherland, and Wipro. Horizon 1 Disruptors, in the bottom band, are Pierian, Tech Mahindra, and Teleperformance. All service providers within a horizon are listed alphabetically. Source: HFS Research, 2026.

Key findings
  1. Horizon 3 Market Leaders include Accenture, Capgemini, Deloitte, EXL, EY, Genpact, IBM, Infosys, and TCS. Horizon 2 Enterprise Innovators include Cognizant, KPMG, PwC, Sutherland, and Wipro. Horizon 1 Disruptors include Pierian, Tech Mahindra, and TP.
  2. Delivery excellence is now the qualifying bar, not a differentiator: clients rate providers 4.4 to 4.7 out of 5 across SLAs, audit and compliance, governance, and talent, and 96% met or exceeded their business case.
  3. Operational excellence does not automatically translate into strategic relevance: 48% of clients view their provider as a strategic transformation partner, and another 48% as an operational partner with advisory capabilities. Consistently proactive providers are nearly twice as likely to be viewed as strategic (64% versus 33%).
  4. Client demand has moved toward AI-led decision support: 86% of client references name AI in finance a top priority for the next 12 to 18 months, ahead of talent and skills (55%) and real-time close (27%).
  5. Partner ecosystems have moved from promise to production, but commercialization lags: 85% of partner references report deployed AI collaborations, and 81% characterize the relationship as a strategic alliance. Sixty-two percent identify go-to-market investment as the biggest remaining gap.

HFS assesses that technology has converged, with more than 80% of the 17 providers citing AI-enabled operations and finance data foundations, so advantage comes from the outcomes a provider owns, not the AI it deploys. HFS finds the market has split into seven archetypes, and the next cycle will be won on commercialization: outcome-based pricing, platform subscriptions, and productized delivery.

Research methodology

The findings draw on 2026 primary research: reference checks with 23 active F&A clients and 27 active partners worldwide, plus briefings with each of the 17 participating providers.
